Relax, Enjoy the Moment
It’s a Thursday night, and I’ve found myself at the one place that can surprisingly embody calmness amidst the bustle—Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. Usually, the trip to the airport from Bandung is a test of patience. The endless traffic jams. The agonizing wait to check in your luggage. The occasional frustration can bubble up during such chaos. But tonight was different.
Today, the universe seemed to align. No traffic. Not a single jam in sight. The luggage line? Practically non-existent. Even the winding roads into Jakarta felt like they were quickly guiding me. And the cherry on top? An exceptionally kind taxi driver, full of warm conversation and good energy. His presence made an already smooth ride even more enjoyable.
I am sitting at the airport with a cold Bintang in hand, taking in the sounds and movements surrounding me. The clinking of glasses at nearby tables, the faint hum of announcements over the speakers, and the rush of travellers pulling their suitcases along polished floors. It’s all unexpectedly peaceful, almost as though the usual chaos paused momentarily to remind me to breathe.
There’s something special about finding moments like this—tiny snippets of serenity in places you least expect them. It’s less about the drink in your hand and more about letting go, slowing down, and appreciating what’s right in front of you. Tonight, it’s the ease of the day behind me. The friendly faces that crossed my path. The absence of stress I had braced myself for.
To my Substack connections reading this, this is my message to you: Take a moment. Look for these pockets of calm, even on the busiest days and the most challenging weeks. Savor them. Acknowledge the friendly people who make a difference. Enjoy that drink, that sunset, that unexpected break in your schedule.
Because sometimes, the simplest moments are the ones that refresh you the most. Tonight, for me, it’s this Bintang beer in Jakarta. What moment will it be for you?
